PP Airless Pump Bottles for Skincare, Personal Care and Healthcare

If you’re comparing PP and SAN airless formats, the material choice comes down to your sustainability goals, aesthetic requirements, and target application. PP delivers a strong case on all three fronts.

  • 100% PP Plastic Construction: Bottle body, piston, and outer components are all polypropylene — a widely-used, well-understood plastic with good chemical resistance and a low weight-to-strength ratio. PP’s broad compatibility with cosmetic and personal care formulations makes it the default material of choice for airless pump packaging across the personal care industry.
  • COSMOS & ECOCERT Certified: The Mezzo range is certified by both COSMOS and ECOCERT — essential credentials for brands operating in the organic and natural beauty market. These certifications confirm that the packaging materials and manufacturing process meet rigorous standards for ecological and health safety.
  • Post-Consumer Recycled (PCR) Content: Selected PP airless products are available with over 40% post-consumer recycled PP content — reducing reliance on virgin polymer while maintaining full airless performance. PCR content contributes directly to your brand’s recycled-material targets under the UK EPR and EU PPWR frameworks.
  • Chemical Resistance & Compatibility: PP offers excellent chemical resistance, making it broadly compatible with a wide range of cosmetic, personal care, and topical healthcare formulations. It is inert to most surfactants, alcohols, and emollient oils at typical use concentrations — though formulation compatibility testing is always recommended.
  • 360° Dispensing & Full Evacuation: All PP airless formats — Mezzo, Corto, and Salon — support 360° dispensing. The vacuum-piston mechanism drives the product upward continuously as it is used, ensuring near-complete evacuation with no residual product left in the base. This reduces waste and improves perceived value for premium formulations.
  • UK Stock — Fast Turnaround: Key lines across the Mezzo, Corto, and Salon ranges are held in UK stock, enabling fast dispatch for brands at the sampling, development, or reorder stage. Minimum order value of £500 applies, supporting smaller brands and rapid NPD timelines.

Three PP airless ranges, each optimised for a distinct use-case profile. Select a range below to see full technical specifications.

Mezzo Range

The Mezzo range is BlueSky’s most sustainability-credentialled PP airless format, carrying both COSMOS and ECOCERT certification. Its top-fill design is simple to integrate into standard filling lines, and the consistent 0.80ml dosage ensures controlled, repeatable application across every pump.

With over 40% PCR content available, the Mezzo supports brands committed to incorporating recycled materials without compromising on performance or appearance. The clean gloss white finish is well-suited to label or screen print decoration.

Corto: Six Actuators. One Versatile Platform.

The Corto range is built around a uniform 49mm diameter platform, available across seven sizes from 30ml to 200ml. What makes Corto distinct is the choice of six actuator designs (A–F), each tailored to a different dispensing behaviour and aesthetic requirement. This allows brands to build a cohesive family across a product range — using the same bottle format but differentiating by actuator design.

The dosage choice of 0.50ml or 1.00ml per pump gives additional flexibility across lightweight serums and richer treatment formulations. See the full actuator guide below to identify which design best fits your application.

Which Actuator is Right for Your Product?

The Corto range offers six distinct actuator designs on a single, uniform 49mm platform. Each actuator is shaped for a specific dispensing behaviour — affecting how the product is released, how the user interacts with the pack, and how the bottle reads on shelf. Use this guide to match your formulation and end-use to the right actuator before ordering a sample.

Actuator A — Generous Finger Pad, Frosted Overcap

A wide, flat finger pad provides comfortable daily use — low effort on the press, high output consistency. The frosted overcap protects the nozzle and gives a premium tactile finish on retail shelf.

Ideal for: Serums, toners, lightweight moisturisers, daily-use face care.

Actuator B — Sloped Shoulder, Protective Nozzle Cover

A sleek sloped shoulder design with an integrated nozzle cover that prevents leakage in transit or in a bag. Clean, modern aesthetic that reads premium at mid-range price points.

Ideal for: Creams, emulsions, SPF moisturisers, body serums.

Actuator C — Sunken Pad, Pointed Nozzle

A recessed finger pad combined with a fine pointed nozzle allows precise, targeted delivery of product — minimising over-application and ensuring the formulation is placed exactly where needed.

Ideal for: Eye contour treatments, spot serums, blemish treatments, retinol products.

Actuator D — Curved Neck, Targeted Application

The curved neck guides product delivery at an angle, making it easy to direct the dispensed formulation to a specific zone without repositioning the hand or bottle. Particularly effective for scalp, beard, or difficult-to-reach areas.

Ideal for: Scalp serums, beard oils, neck creams, targeted muscle treatments.

Actuator E — Seamless Integration

The Actuator E design integrates flush with the body of the bottle, creating a smooth and continuous surface. No protruding parts. A refined, design-forward aesthetic well suited to minimalist brand identities and high-end gift packaging.

Ideal for: Premium skincare, gift sets, luxury D2C brand formats, hero hero SKUs.

Actuator F — Concave Head, Vertical Pump

A concave dispensing head and straight vertical pump design give a clinical, treatment-oriented look. The upright format communicates efficacy over aesthetics — suited to professional and medically-adjacent product positioning.

Ideal for: Topical healthcare products, dermatological formulations, clinical skincare, animal health treatments.

PP vs SAN Airless — Which is Right for Your Brand?

Both PP and SAN airless formats deliver the same core airless performance: 360° dispensing, full product evacuation, and contamination prevention. The choice comes down to your sustainability priorities, aesthetic brief, and price point.

PP Airless: Packaging with Provable Sustainability Claims

With the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) and as the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) comes into force across the UK and EU, brands need packaging with verifiable, documented sustainability credentials — not just marketing language. The BlueSky PP airless range can support you.

COSMOS and ECOCERT certification (Mezzo) are independently verified. PCR content is documented by weight percentage. These aren’t aspirational claims — they’re specifications your procurement team can verify and your marketing team can communicate with confidence.

PCR content option: >40% post-consumer recycled PP — available on selected Mezzo lines. Contact us to discuss PCR specifications for your order.

  • COSMOS Certified: The Mezzo range meets COSMOS certification standards — the global benchmark for natural and organic cosmetic packaging. Required by most certified natural beauty brands.
  • ECOCERT Certified: ECOCERT certification provides additional assurance for brands supplying to European organic and natural markets where independent packaging verification is increasingly required by retailers.
  • PP Plastic — Widely Recyclable Material: PP is one of the most widely accepted plastics in UK and EU recycling infrastructure. While the full assembled pump unit should be checked against local recycling guidance, PP is a material with established end-of-life routes.
  • PPWR-Aligned Design: PP plastic construction + PCR content options position PP airless packaging in direct alignment with forthcoming PPWR recycled content targets for plastic packaging.

FAQs

Is PP airless packaging recyclable?

BlueSky’s PP airless bottles use recyclable polypropylene (PP) for the bottle body and plastic components. The Mezzo range additionally carries COSMOS and ECOCERT certification. PCR content of over 40% is available on selected lines, reducing reliance on virgin PP while maintaining full performance. As with all pump packaging, we recommend checking local recycling guidelines for the full assembled unit.

What is the difference between PP and SAN airless bottles?

PP is opaque, constructed from PP plastic, and available with COSMOS/ECOCERT certification — best for natural, organic, and sustainability-led brands. SAN is crystal-clear with a glass-like visual quality, suited to luxury brands where the formulation colour or texture is part of the product presentation. Both formats offer the same core airless performance: 360° dispensing and near-complete product evacuation.

Which Corto actuator should I choose?

Actuator A suits serums and daily-use face care (generous finger pad, easy press). Actuator B is suited to creams and emulsions (sloped shoulder, nozzle cover). Actuator C delivers precision application for spot treatments (pointed nozzle). Actuator D is ideal for scalp and targeted areas (curved neck). Actuator E is the most design-forward option (seamless flush integration, ideal for gift or premium retail). Actuator F suits clinical and treatment positioning (vertical pump, concave head). See the full actuator guide above for more detail.

What dosage outputs do PP airless pumps deliver?

The Mezzo range delivers 0.80ml (800 mcl) per pump. The Salon range delivers 1.00ml (1000 mcl) per pump. The Corto range offers a choice of 0.50ml (500 mcl) or 1.00ml (1000 mcl) per pump depending on actuator and configuration selected.

What is the difference between top fill and bottom-fill airless formats?

Top-fill bottles (Mezzo) are filled from the cap end before the piston is set — straightforward to run on standard production lines. Bottom-fill bottles (Salon) are filled from the base, pushing the piston upward — a preferred format in many professional and high-volume salon filling environments where production speed and fill accuracy are priorities.

What viscosities are compatible with PP airless pump bottles?

PP airless pumps handle a wide viscosity range — from thin serums and tonics up to medium-weight creams, emulsions, and gels. Very high-viscosity products (thick balms, butters) may not dispense reliably and are better suited to jars or tubes. If you’re unsure, request a sample and conduct a fill test with your formulation before ordering production quantities.

Can PP airless bottles be decorated or custom labelled?

Yes. The PP surface suits labels, shrink sleeves, and screen printing. BlueSky also manages decoration services and custom colour options. Contact the team to discuss your decoration brief before ordering — particularly for custom colours or print registration requirements.

What is the minimum order value (MOV)?

BlueSky operates a minimum order value of £500. Many PP airless lines are available from UK stock with no minimum quantity (subject to MOV). Made-to-order products — including some Corto actuator configurations — carry an MOQ. Check individual product listings for stock status, or contact the sales team for guidance.
