What is the DUMA Container System?

DUMA is a standardised range of HDPE containers used widely in pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, supplement and food packaging. The defining characteristics of the DUMA system are:

• HDPE construction — high-density polyethylene providing excellent chemical resistance, impact strength and moisture barrier properties
• FDA registration — the containers are FDA-registered, confirming they meet US Food and Drug Administration material standards for use with pharmaceutical, nutraceutical and food products.
• Standardised neck finishes — consistent neck dimensions across the range allowing interchangeability of closures and accessories across container sizes
• Tamper-evident handycap closures — the DUMA system uses a specific closure type (the handycap) that provides clear tamper evidence when first opened

The BlueSky DUMA range is divided into three sub-categories. Understanding which format suits your application determines which sub-category to specify:

• Duma Special — wide-mouth containers in a squat, broader format. Suited to solid products: tablets, capsules, powder supplements, dry nutraceuticals. The wider neck makes pouring, scooping and measuring easier for end users.
• Duma Standard — standard-proportion HDPE containers in the same material and compliance profile. Suited to liquid and semi-liquid products.
• Duma Twist-Off — containers with a twist-off closure mechanism rather than the standard handycap, where ease of opening for the end user is a priority.

Key Features of the Duma Special Range

Wide-Mouth Format — Suited to Solid and Powder Products

The Duma Special format is characterised by its wider neck relative to container height compared to the Standard format. The 43mm, 65mm and 95mm neck sizes allow easy access to the container contents — tablets and capsules can be tipped out cleanly, powders can be scooped, and the container empties more completely than a narrow-neck bottle. This makes the Special format the right choice for solid-dose and powder supplement applications.

FDA-Registered HDPE

All Duma Special containers are manufactured from HDPE that is FDA-registered for use with pharmaceutical, nutraceutical and food products.

Tamper-Evident Handycap Closures

Duma Special containers are designed for use with handycap closures — a specific tamper-evident closure type used across the DUMA range. Handycaps show clear, visible evidence of first opening, providing product integrity assurance for pharmaceutical, supplement and food retail applications.

Volume Range: 30ml to 1.5L

18 SKUs cover volumes from 30ml — suitable for single-dose or sample formats — through to 1.5L for bulk supplement and larger retail pack formats. The range covers the volume requirements most commonly encountered in tablet, capsule and powder supplement packaging across both consumer retail and professional/institutional formats.

Four Neck Sizes: 31mm, 43mm, 65mm and 95mm

White and Black Colour Options

The majority of the range is available in white HDPE. Black HDPE is available on the 250ml, 500ml and 750ml formats — relevant for products where UV protection or a premium, dark-format pack aesthetic is part of the specification. Customisation, including other colour options, are available, subject to MOQ – contact us if you have a specific need.

HDPE Moisture Barrier and Chemical Resistance

HDPE also provides good chemical resistance across a wide range of formulations and is fully recyclable.

Neck Size Reference

31mm — the narrowest neck in the range, available on the 30ml container only. More suited to small liquid or semi-liquid formats than solid-dose applications at this size.

43mm — available on the 50ml, 100ml and 150ml containers. A practical access width for smaller format tablet and capsule packs — sufficient for dispensing single tablets or capsules without being excessively wide for the container volume.

65mm — available on the 150ml, 250ml, 300ml, 400ml and 500ml containers. The most commonly specified width across the mid-range volumes. Suitable for tablet, capsule and powder products in the standard supplement retail format (60-count, 90-count and similar).

95mm — the widest neck in the range, available on the 500ml, 750ml, 1L, 1.25L and 1.5L containers. Suited to bulk powder supplements, high-count tablet and capsule packs, and larger-format nutraceutical products where a wide opening is important for scooping and pouring.

Where Duma Special Containers Are Used

Tablets and Capsules — Supplement and Pharmaceutical

The wide-mouth format is standard for tablet and capsule packaging across nutraceutical, supplement and OTC pharmaceutical applications. The 65mm and 95mm neck sizes in the mid-to-large volume range suit the standard supplement retail formats used for vitamins, minerals, probiotics and similar products.

Powder Supplements

Protein powders, pre-workout formulations, vitamin powders, collagen supplements and similar dry powder products benefit from the wide-mouth 95mm neck format on the larger containers, which allows a scoop to be inserted and the container to be refilled easily. The HDPE moisture barrier is particularly relevant for hygroscopic powder formulations.

Dry Nutraceuticals and Health Supplements

The combination of FDA-registered HDPE, tamper-evident handycap closure and wide-mouth format makes the Duma Special range the standard container choice for nutraceutical brands across tablets, softgels, hard capsules and gummies.

Pharmaceutical Solid Dose

OTC pharmaceutical solid-dose products — analgesics, antihistamines, supplements with medical claims — use the Duma Special format where compliant, tamper-evident packaging is required for retail distribution. FDA registration and the tamper-evident handycap support the regulatory requirements of this category.

Sample and Single-Dose Formats

The 30ml, 50ml and 100ml sizes in the range suit sample packs, single-dose packs and smaller-format supplement or pharmaceutical products where a smaller container volume is commercially appropriate.

Food — Dry Goods

The DUMA Special range is also used for certain food applications — dried herbs, spices, powdered food supplements, confectionery — where an HDPE wide-mouth container with tamper evidence is the required format.

For contract fillers handling pharmaceutical, nutraceutical and supplement briefs, the Duma Special range covers the standard container formats encountered across solid-dose and powder product categories.
