Berlin Packaging expands its presence in EMEA with the acquisition of BlueSky.
The GL18 White Closure with Integrated EPE Liner (GL18W-ILE) is a standard screw cap manufactured in PP (polypropylene), fitted with an integrated expanded polyethylene (EPE) foam liner disc. The EPE liner sits inside the closure and compresses against the bottle rim on tightening, creating a lightweight, chemically inert seal between the cap and the glass — providing a basic but reliable closure for cosmetic, personal care, and general-use liquid formulations where a straightforward mechanical seal is the primary requirement. EPE is the entry-level liner option in the GL18 system, offering no additional barrier enhancement beyond the primary seal — making it appropriate for formulations that are not oxygen-sensitive, moisture-sensitive, or chemically aggressive, and where a more specialised barrier liner is not required.
As part of the GL18 closure system, the GL18W-ILE fits all GL18 glass dropper bottles in the BlueSky range — 5ml to 100ml, in both amber and clear glass — without modification. The GL18 neck standard (also known as NW18 or DIN168) maintains a consistent inner bore diameter of 10.65mm ± 0.15mm across all bottle volumes, ensuring full interchangeability across the range. As a standard screw cap without a tamper-evident ring, this closure is the appropriate choice for cosmetic and personal care applications where tamper evidence is not a regulatory or commercial requirement. For formulations requiring enhanced barrier protection — oxygen, moisture, or chemical resistance — BlueSky’s GL18 liner range includes PET, aluminium, PVDC, PTFE, and butyl rubber options to suit specific formulation requirements. The integrated expanded polyethylene (EPE) foam liner disc compresses against the bottle rim when the closure is tightened, creating a lightweight, inert mechanical seal. EPE is chemically inert, non-reactive, and compatible with a broad range of cosmetic and personal care formulations. It is the entry-level liner specification in the GL18 system — providing a reliable primary seal without additional barrier properties — and is the appropriate choice where formulation protection requirements are straightforward and no enhanced barrier is needed.
Manufactured in polypropylene (PP), the GL18W-ILE offers broad chemical compatibility with cosmetic and personal care liquid formulations including aqueous solutions, light oils, serums, and tinctures. PP is a widely specified closure material across cosmetic and personal care packaging, valued for its rigidity, chemical resistance, and clean, consistent aesthetic. As with all closures, formulation compatibility testing is recommended prior to production.
The GL18W-ILE is a standard screw cap with a clean conical form and no tamper-evident ring — the most accessible and cost-efficient closure configuration in the GL18 system. It is appropriate for cosmetic, personal care, and general-use applications where tamper evidence is not required. Where tamper evidence is needed, BlueSky’s OVII (integral TE ring) and OVIII (assembled TE ring) closures are available within the same GL18 system. Where child resistance is required, the CRC closure (ISO 8317) is the appropriate specification.
EPE foam provides a basic primary seal and is the right choice for formulations that are not oxygen-sensitive, moisture-sensitive, or chemically aggressive. For formulations requiring enhanced protection, BlueSky’s GL18 liner range offers: PE Foam + PET (adds oxygen barrier, suitable for vitamin C serums and oxidation-sensitive actives), PE Foam + Aluminium (adds moisture barrier, suitable for hygroscopic liquids), PE Foam + PVDC (dual oxygen and moisture barrier), PE Foam + PTFE (highest chemical resistance, for essential oils and solvents), and butyl rubber (pharmaceutical-grade seal for oral drops). Contact BlueSky’s team to discuss the most appropriate liner specification for your formulation.
As part of the GL18 system, the GL18W-ILE is compatible with all GL18 glass dropper bottles in the BlueSky range — 5ml, 10ml, 15ml, 20ml, 30ml, 50ml, and 100ml — in both amber and clear glass. The GL18 neck standard is consistent across all bottle volumes, meaning this closure specification does not change when bottle size changes within the GL18 range.
Like all GL18 cap shapes, the GL18W-ILE can be combined with GL18 dispensing accessories including rim droppers, vertical droppers, pourers, orifice reducers, and syringe inserts — all of which fit within the GL18 neck and work independently of the liner type. This gives brand owners full flexibility in dispensing format without changing the closure or bottle specification.

EPE stands for expanded polyethylene — a lightweight, chemically inert foam material. The EPE liner disc sits inside the closure cap and compresses against the glass bottle rim when tightened, creating a mechanical seal that prevents leakage and contamination. It provides no additional barrier enhancement beyond the primary seal, making it the entry-level liner option in the GL18 system — appropriate for cosmetic and personal care formulations that do not require oxygen, moisture, or chemical barrier protection.
Both the GL18W-ILE and the GL18W-SSC are standard screw caps with no tamper-evident ring, but they use different sealing mechanisms. The self-seal closure (GL18W-SSC) uses an integrated membrane that creates a hermetic seal on first application. The GL18W-ILE uses an EPE foam liner disc that compresses against the bottle rim on tightening — a mechanical seal that remains in place across repeated openings and closings. The self-seal is typically used for single-access or first-seal applications; the EPE liner is appropriate for products that will be opened and reclosed multiple times during use.
EPE is appropriate for formulations that are not sensitive to oxygen or moisture ingress and do not contain chemically aggressive ingredients. If your formulation is oxygen-sensitive — such as vitamin C serums or retinol preparations — a PET or aluminium lining is more appropriate. For essential oils, solvents, or high-concentration actives, a PTFE (Teflon) liner provides the highest chemical resistance. For pharmaceutical oral drops, butyl rubber is the standard specification. Contact BlueSky’s team to discuss liner selection for your specific formulation.
The GL18W-ILE fits all GL18 glass dropper bottles in the BlueSky range — 5ml, 10ml, 15ml, 20ml, 30ml, 50ml, and 100ml — in both amber and clear glass. As a standard screw cap, it does not include tamper-evident or child-resistant features. For applications requiring tamper evidence, BlueSky’s OVII or OVIII GL18 closures are available. For child-resistant applications, the GL18 CRC closure (ISO 8317) is the correct specification. All closures and accessories within the GL18 system are interchangeable across the full bottle range.
