Description
28mm ROPP Black HDPE Tethered Screw Cap with Tamper-Evident Band and Boreseal
Three Functions, One Closure
Tethered band — after first opening, the TE band separates from the cap body but remains physically connected to the bottle neck via a hinge, keeping the cap tethered throughout the product’s life. This satisfies the requirement under Article 6 of the EU Single-Use Plastics Directive, in force since 3 July 2024, which mandates that caps on single-use plastic beverage containers up to 3 litres remain attached during use. The hinge holds the cap away from the bottle opening during pouring without requiring the user to hold it clear.
Tamper evidence — an intact band assures the consumer the product is unopened. A broken or displaced band signals that first opening has occurred. For pharmaceutical, health drink and supplement products, this is frequently a consumer or regulatory expectation independent of the tethering requirement.
Boreseal — the inner plug engages with the bottle neck bore on closing, creating a secondary seal against leakage and contamination. This protects product integrity during transit and storage, and maintains freshness between uses.
Suitable For:
– Beverage — soft drinks, water, juices, sports drinks, health drinks and any single-use plastic beverage container up to 3 litres sold into EU markets
– Pharmaceutical and health — liquid medicines and health drinks where tamper evidence is a requirement
– Nutritional supplements — protein shakes, meal replacements, fortified beverages
– Animal health — veterinary liquid products in ROPP bottle formats
Compliance
The EU Single-Use Plastics Directive (Directive 2019/904, Article 6) has been in force since 3 July 2024. Any single-use plastic beverage container up to 3 litres placed on the EU market must carry a tethered closure. Non-compliant products risk enforcement action from national regulators in EU member states.
UK brands exporting to the EU must meet this requirement for those products. There is currently no equivalent domestic mandate in Great Britain, but adopting a tethered specification across all production runs removes the complexity of managing separate SKUs for domestic and export stock.
This cap is designed to meet the tethered closure requirement as defined under Article 6 of the SUPD. Read the full BlueSky guide to the EU tethered cap regulation →
Notes for Packaging Specifiers
Line compatibility — for brands already running a 28mm ROPP format, this closure’s outer profile is close enough to a conventional ROPP cap that existing capping equipment typically requires only minor adjustment (usually cap retainer replacement) rather than full line reconfiguration. Confirm compatibility with your equipment supplier before production commitment.
Material compatibility — HDPE is chemically resistant and food-contact approved, suitable for the majority of beverage, pharmaceutical and supplement formulations. For formulations with aggressive solvents or unusual pH, confirm compatibility before use.
Colour — supplied in black as standard. Contact the sales team to discuss alternative colours or custom specifications.
